A superb and rare 19th century Meissen Porcelain group of the Empress Elisabeth on horseback, with her black attendant to her side, wearing her green riding habit. Elisabeth (born 1709, died 1762) was from the House of Romanov, her father was Peter The Great, her mother Catherine I. Elisabeth, spoke several languages, was a keen horse rider and a popular Russian monarch. A painting of Elisabeth on horseback with her black attendant is attributed to the German artist Georg Christoph Grooth. The Meissen Group is based on the painting and shows her in her military style hunting uniform on a white horse, superbly modelled showing movement and fine detail to decoration.
